Propecia Linked to Prostate Cancer

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has notified medical providers that the warning labels for 5-aplha reductase inhibitor class of drugs should now include new safety information of the increased risk for prostate cancer. There are several prescription drugs that fall under this class of drugs. One of the more commonly sold drugs in the class of 5-aplha reductase inhibitors is called Propecia.

PubMed Health Journal reports that the FDA reviewed two large trials. The group of medications included in these studies were Finasteride (Proscar/Propecia), Dutasteride (Avodart) and Dutasteride in combination with Tamsulosin. Propecia is a popular hair loss treatment for men.
