Man Beaten By Officers At The MGM Grand Files Suit

According to a recently filed lawsuit two Detroit police officers physically attacked a man in the lobby of the MGM Grand casino..

Dujuan Moncrief , a 34-year-old Detroit landscaper has alleged that one of the cops choked him until he was unconscious and the other beat him with a baton.

He said he spent three days in jail without medical treatment for broken ribs and other injuries until the charges were dropped and he was allowed to go home. “I didn’t deserve to be treated the way they treated me,” Moncrief said in a statement.

Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said Thursday he couldn’t comment on pending litigation.
Moncrief said that while standing in the lobby waiting for transportation to another casino, Moncrief said the officers approached and told him to wait outside in the cold. When he protested, he said one officer got behind him and put him in a choke hold while the other whacked him repeatedly with a baton.

The officers are identified as William Brewster and John Appling.

Moncrief said he sustained considerable injuries from the incident that are still bothering him. The suit alleges false arrest and malicious prosecution.
