Indiana State Fair Stage Collapses

Five people were killed and more than 40 injured when the main stage at the Indiana State Fair collapsed on Saturday during a storm. The stage collapsed just after the opening act of the country band, Sugarland, had performed and just before the band was to take the stage.

Officials are reporting that a strong gust of wind toppled the rigging and sent it plunging into the crowd. Many concert-goers ran to the stage to try to lift steel beams and other parts of the stage off the trapped fans.

The investigation into this type of tragedy can take weeks, or even months. Legally, a focus on how and why it happened, and whether it could have been prevented, is a concern. Often, victims families want to retain an attorney to hire independent investigators to make sure they get the answers they need.

Our hearts are with the victims and their families and everyone who tried to help them afterward.
