Five Dead in Stage Collapse at Indiana State Fair
News agencies are reporting that five people have died in a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair. The incident occurred when a heavy gust of wind collapsed an outdoor stage on Saturday. Over 40 people were injured in the collapse that occurred just minutes before the country group Sugarland was to begin performing. Authorities are reporting that several of the injuries sustained were very serious.
Concert officials had told concert-goers that the concert might have to be postponed due to the weather, but a strong gust blew the stage over before any official evacuation order was issued. State fire marshals and the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the collapse. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured.
