Lexington, Kentucky (Fayette County) Car Accident Between Police Cruiser And Convertible Carrying Just Married Couple Results In Multiple Injuries
What was supposed to be the happiest day in a newly married couple's lives became one they will always remember, but for a different reason. A Lexington police officer admittedly ran a red light and slammed into the car carrying the couple to their wedding reception. The bride was ejected, and a total of five people were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
The Lexington police admit the officer ran the red light, but also explained that he applied his brakes in an effort to avoid the collision. Interestingly though, the wedding photographer, who was right behind the couple, posted a comment on the Lexington Herald Leader's web site story refuting that. He stated that he witnessed the accident, the police officer never attempted to brake and he saw the bride bounce off of the concrete after being ejected.
Let's hope that a full, complete and independent investigation takes place to determine exactly what happened here. I've often thought that when a member of the agency who typically investigates these types of accidents is involved in such an accident, another agency, like the Kentucky State Police, should be called in to handle the investigation.
Hopefully, everyone involved will make complete and speedy recoveries, and the new couple can start their new life off together healthy. Also, hopefully the Lexington Police Department has sufficient insurance coverage to compensate everyone for the harms and losses its caused.
