Looking at How the Civil Justice System Has Impacted Auto Safety
The Washington Post ran an interesting article this week regarding the impact that the civil justice system has had over the last half century on automobile safety. The article notes that traffic fatalities are at their lowest level since 1949 despite the fact that the number of cars and miles driven has increased exponentially since that time. Today's automakers have improved safety immensely through innovation and design changes, but many of those were in response to litigation and the power of the American jury system.
