Indianapolis Woman Killed In Crash, Her Three-Year-Old Daughter Survives

Our prayers are with the family of 24 year-old Lakesha Long. Ms. Long was driving with her 3 year-old daughter on Friday afternoon when a car driven by 69 year-old Melvin Bennett of Carmel, ran a red light and at the intersection of 86th and Ditch Road and crashed into her car, killing her. Thankfully, Ms. Long's daughter is alive and reported to be in stable condition.

At this point police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Vanessa Cantley
, Indiana wrongful death attorney, comments: "For whatever reason, Mr. Bennett ran a red light at a speed that was capable of killing Lakesha Long and injuring her daughter. In an instant, his conduct devastated the lives of Ms. Long's family and left her daughter without a mother. Having two young children of my own, I can't imagine what the family must be going through right now. While police investigations are often performed in connection with fatal wrecks, it will be important for an independent investigation to be performed, preferably with an experienced accident reconstructionist, so that Ms. Long's family can have answers. If police reports of how the wreck happened are correct, Mr. Bennett will be liable for civil damages to Ms. Long's family for her wrongful death, and to Ms. Long's daughter for her injuries as well. What a senseless tragedy."
