Viper, Kentucky Man Killed by Truck Driving Backward on Highway in Knott County

A senseless wreck in the Knott County, Kentucky community of Carr Fork has taken the life of another young Kentuckian. 34 year old Christopher Collins of Viper (Perry County), Kentucky was killed when his car wrecked into the back of a commercial truck being driven in reverse in the northbound lane of KY-15.

The "accident" occurred on January 21, 2011 just after midnight, according to Kentucky State Police in Hazard. KSP performed a "preliminary investigation," which they say reveals that a commercial vehicle driven by 47 year old Calvin Turner was being driven in reverse on the highway. Mr. Turner is from Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Collins was driving in the northbound of KY-15. It appears as if Mr. Collins attempted to avoid the truck coming at him in reverse, but was unable to do so due to road conditions. Mr. Collins was fatally injured in the ensuing collision and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

KSP says that the investigation is continuing, but in any wreck involving catastrophic injuries or death, it is usually advisable to have an independent accident reconstruction performed by a highly-qualified experienced accident reconstructionist.
