Louisville, Kentucky Car And Truck Accident Claims Life
Royce "John" Bumgardner, 46, of Piketon, Ohio sustained fatal injuries when the semi tractor-tailer he was driving was struck by another semi tractor-trailer that had crossed over into his lane of travel on Interstate 71 (I-71). Mr. Bumgardner was traveling southbound on I-71 and the other semi was traveling northbound.
The wreck was set into motion when a car swerved to avoid a ladder in the roadway, which caused another car to decelerate rapidly. The driver of the semi then swerved to the right to avoid the decelerating car, overcorrected, went into the median, broke through the cable barriers and then crashed into Mr. Bumgardner's semi. One other person sustained injuries.
Our sympathies and condolences go out to the Bumgardner family. We also hope for a quick and full recovery for the other injured party.
The series of events that led to Mr. Bumgardner's death raise many questions that need to be answered for the Bumgardner family. Some that initially come to mind are: Who did the ladder belong to, and how did it get in the middle of the road?; How fast was the other semi going before trying to avoid the decelerating car?; Why did the cable barriers fail?
The police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. However, often times it is in the best interest of an accident victim, or a surviving family member, to conduct their own investigation. Insurance companies that cover semis, like those involved here, routinely send a team out to investigate accidents of this magnitude within hours. You can safely bet that has happened here.
Hiring an experience car and truck accident lawyer to conduct an investigation, preserve evidence and for protection of rights is often in the best interest of an accident victim or the surviving family members. The attorney will know what to do in order to achieve these goals in a timely manner, as it is of the essence.
