Frankfort, Kentucky Car Accident Claims Life Of Teenage Girl
A Franklin County, Kentucky car accident resulted in fatal injuries to Trista N. Shoemaker, who was only 17 at the time of the crash. The Kentucky State Police are investigating and say that according to witnesses, a Chevrolet truck, driven by Kevin R. Butler of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, ran a red light and rammed Ms. Shoemaker's 1999 Toyota on U.S. 127. A 15 year-old passenger in the Toyota was injured as well.
Our sympathies and condolences go out to the family of Ms. Shoemaker. We also hope for a speedy and full recovery for the injured.
Interestingly, the KSP indicates that the accident remains under investigation and asks anyone with information to contact them at (502) 227-2221. It sounds like a pretty cut and dry case, but perhaps there is something more the police are looking for that would take this into the realm of a criminal act. If the wreck occurred as stated by witnesses, Mr. Butler will be civilly liable to the surviving family of Ms. Shoemaker for injuring and killing her. However, if certain other facts surface, he will face a whole other set of problems with criminal responsibility.
It may be in the best interest of Ms. Shoemaker's family to hire an attorney experienced in handling car and truck accident cases to conduct an investigation. An experienced attorney will know what to do to uncover any overlooked evidence and preserve the evidence already known to exist.
