Virginia Jury Makes Largest Wrongful Death Award In The History Of the State
A Virginia jury has awarded, what many believe to be, is the largest wrongful death award ever in the history of such types of cases in Virginia. A jury has given $10.5 million to the family of a woman who died after a concrete mixer truck fell on her vehicle.
Jessica Lester, who was a mere 25 old at the time, was the woman whose estate brought suit. She died after eight days in the hospital and her husband Isaiah Lester, who survived. The couples vehicle was crushed as they were driving as they were hit by a truck driven by William Sprouse, working for Allied Concrete Co. Sprouse later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and served 30 days in jail.
As of this writing, it is thought that the record for a wrongful death verdict in Virginia was a $10.4 million case involving a shipyard worker exposed to asbestos.
