GM, Honda Forced To Recall Popular Crossover SUV's

General Motors (“GM”) has been forced to recall approximately 100,000 of its popular crossover models. General Motors has elected to proceed with a significant recall of about 100,000 crossover vehicles; the reason is so the manufacturer can fix seat belts that could fail in a crash. In a prepared statement the company has stated that the recall involves 2011 model year versions of the Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain – all popular “crossover” SUV’s that have been selling well as opposed to traditional SUV’s that do not do as well on gas mileage. The seat belt buckle anchor for the driver and front passenger seats could break in a crash.

In the same week that GM announced the recall of several crossovers as stated above, the Honda motor company has also elected to proceed with a Honda Passport recall. Similar to the GM situation the Passport is a popular crossover SUV. Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 35,000 Passport sport utility vehicles to inspect brackets on the rear suspension that could detach and lead to a crash.

The recall involves Passports from the 1998-2002 model years and is limited to 21 states where road salt is used during the winter.
