Drop-Side Crib Recalled For Hardware Failures

More than 11,000 drop-side cribs have been recalled after two children were injured due to hardware failures. Alexander Designs Ltd. announced the recall last week, reporting that there is a risk of the drop-side of the crib detaching and falling unexpectedly. When this occurs, a gap is created between the side of the crib and the mattress, posing a suffocation risk for infants.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the cribs and obtain a free repair kit that will immobilize the drop-side rail. In the meantime, parents are urged to find an alternate, safe sleeping environment for the child, such as a bassinet, play yard or toddler bed depending on the child's age.
