On the heels of the announcement of a plea deal with Allergan Inc. for $600 million in penalties, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) civil division indicated that it will continue to aggressively pursue drug companies for illegally marketing drugs for uses for which they have not gained approval. The DOJ hopes that they can create a deterrent by pursuing the drug companies in this manner, and thereby preventing harm to consumers.
