Four Year Old Louisville Girl Drowns
A 4-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in a “kiddie pool” on Monday afternoon at her home in Louisville's Portland neighborhood. She died later that night/the next morning at Kosair Children's Hospital.
The girl was being watched by her mother’s boyfriend at a home in the 2200 block of Columbia Street. The boyfriend told police that he went inside for a “few minutes” and he found the girl unresponsive and unconscious when he returned.
Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones attorney Larry Jones says, "As the father of two small children, this story breaks my heart. Please don't leave your children unattended even for a minute when they are in water."
On a separate note, according to Jones, this situation raises a nice teaching point about homeowner's insurance. While most people realize that homeowner's insurance covers things like theft of property and loss of a house to fire, what many don't realize is that such policies also cover injuries that occur on the homeowner's property, subject to potential exclusion contained in the policy. Also, landlords usually carry such policies on rental properties that also cover injuries occurring on their property. Unfortunately, insurance companies almost always try to find a reason not to pay such losses.
