GM Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles Due to Fire Concerns
General Motors Co. is recalling approximately 1.5 million vehicles due to a heated windshield wiper fluid system that could lead to fires. It is GM's second recall over the issue in two years, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports.
Affecting several different GM models from 2006 to 2009, GM is aware of five fires caused by the problem. Since the company that designed the system for GM has went out of business, GM will disable the feature and provide owners and those leasing vehicles $100 each. No crashes or injuries have been reported as of this date.
Although no crashes or injuries have been reported, owners and those leasing the vehicles should be cautious until the system is disabled. Vehicle fires could cause serious injuries and property damage. If you or someone you know has been injured because of this problem, it is important to contact an experienced attorney. An attorney can help ensure that evidence is not destroyed and that your rights are protected.
The attorneys of Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones, PLC represent individuals harmed by dangerous products. Shawn Cantley [profile], one of the firm's partners, pointed out that the recall is one more incident in a series of problems involving fires and GM cars. That series includes another washer recall in 2008 and a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation into 2007 Yukon and Tahoe vehicles for engine compartment fires.
