Yaz And Yasmin Safety Have Become The Focus Of Lawsuits
A great article was published recently that details the controversy surrounding the contraceptives Yasmin and Yaz. The author does a nice job of giving some history and context. Some of the highlights include:
- approximately 1,100 lawsuits have been filed nationwide against Yasmin and Yaz's drug maker, Bayer HealthCare;
- the lawsuit contend that the synthetic progestin contained in Yasmin and Yaz (drospirenone) causes side effects, including blood clots in deep veins (deep vein thrombosis), strokes, heart attacks and gallbladder disease;
- Yaz leads the nation in birth control pill sales at more than $391 million;
- Public Citizen, a consumer watchdog group, placed Yasmin on its "Do Not Use" list.
Dangerous and defective drugs are responsible for many injuries and death nationwide. Our profession calls this area of law products liability. Consulting a lawyer experienced in handling these matters is usually easy.
