Toyota Acceleration Problem Update: Judge Sets Framework for Lawsuits to Proceed

U.S. District Judge Selna has set a tentative framework so that recently consolidated lawsuits involving the sudden acceleration problems of Toyota vehicles may proceed.

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against Toyota by owners seeking compensation for injury due to sudden acceleration as well as by owners seeking compensation for the damage to the resale value of their vehicles. If the cases are settled, some attorneys anticipate at least a $3 billion payout, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports.

Judge Selna has not yet decided if he will certify the lawsuits as a class action but has developed three committees that will oversee key components of the litigation. Teams of lawyers will work together to oversee the wrongful death and economic loss claims, as well as to coordinate and share discovery.

There have been over 320 lawsuits filed against Toyota and over 8 million vehicles have been recalled for sudden acceleration problems and brake glitches. The attorneys of Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones are currently representing people who have these types of problems with their Toyota cars.
