Although Bayer has received FDA approval for its new birth control drug, Natazia, it remains unknown if the potentially deadly side effects associated with Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella will persist.

Due to injuries caused by Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella, there are approximately 1100 lawsuits pending against Bayer around the country. Those pills use the synthetic progestin "drospirenone", which can cause:

* Pulmonary embolism (PE)
* Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
* Weight Gain
* Blood Clots
* Depression
* Kidney Failure
* Seizures
* Stroke
* Heart attack
* Pancreatitis
* Gallbladder disease
* Supra Vesicular Tachycardia (SVT)
* Heart arrhythmia and palpitations

Bayer's new drug, Natazia, uses a new type of synthetic progestin. Natazia recently obtained FDA approval, the Washington Post reports. Natazia has been approved and marketed in the UK since May, 2009 under the name Qlaira. It is unknown whether or not the Qlaira/Natazia can cause the same problems as Yaz but the UK's electronic Medicines Compendium has determined that the drugs are similar enough it lists Yaz's side effects as potential dangers of the new drug.

This lack of information about Natazia's potential dangers has some questioning its safety.
