Bettyville (Lee County) Kentucky Injury Accident Causes 4 Deaths

There was a fatal car accident in Lee County, Kentucky on Wednesday just South of Beattyville on KY 11. The wreck resulted in the tragic deaths of 4 young people.

Police say a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 35 year old Alan Marcum of Beattyville was traveling southbound on KY 11 when it left the road and drove into the parking lot of the Bobcat Restaurant. The Blazer then struck a stopped pickup driven by Rebecca Combs. After striking the pickup, Mr. Marcum's Blazer crossed back onto KY 11, where it traveled through a parking lot and sideswiped a utility pole. The Blazer then went airborne over a steep embankment and struck a tree at the base of a creek.

Mr. Marcum and his three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lee County Coroner. The passengers were 32 year old Ronnie Herald, 25 year old Sabrina Daluisio, and 35 year old Jeremiah Freeman. All of the victims are from Beattyville.

Police report that none of the victims were wearing seat belts, but this type of report is often inaccurate. Ms. Combs, the driver of the the pickup struck in the parking lot of the Bobcat Restaurant, was not injured. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. The accident is still under investigation by State Police.
