Tacoma May Join The Toyota Recall List
Toyota Motor Company., Inc, made the announcement last week that it will now recall and inspect the front drive shaft on certain 2010 model year Tacoma 4WD trucks. The Tacoma had not been named as one of the models that had been implicated in the massive recall that Toyota has undertaken in the first part of 2010 – it appears that fact could soon change. What is alarming is that the Tacoma recall, if after the inspection, is commenced on a larger scale is not related to the brake pedal and sudden acceleration problems that have been the subject (along with faulty floor mats) of the earlier recalls. In regard to the Tacoma truck is it the front shaft in vehicles that may include a component that contains cracks that developed during the manufacturing process. As those vehicles are used, the cracks may eventually lead to the separation of the drive shaft at the joint portion.
The Tacoma issues involve two front drive shafts production which were installed in certain 2010 model year Tacoma 4WD vehicles. No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in this particular safety inspection.
Consumers will be advised by notification letter to bring Tacoma’s to a local dealer. The dealer has directions from Toyota to perform an inspection to identify the specific lot numbers located on the front drive shaft. Depending on the results as they are reported back to Toyota, in a limited number of cases, the front drive shaft may need to be replaced.
