UPDATE: January 17, 2010 Fatal Accident On New LaGrange Road:
Victims Identified As David Meredith, Omar Lopez, Armando Castellano, & Jovany Juarez-Marin
The identities of those killed and injured in the January 17, 2010 multiple car crash on New LaGrange Road have been identified as David Meredith, age 65, of the 1700 block of Norris Place, Omar Lopez, believed to be in his 20’s, of the 500 block of Quails Run, Armando Castellano, age 42, and Jovany Juarez-Main, age 25.
As reported yesterday, the accident involved 3 vehicles, and took place in 2 phases. First, Meredith’s pickup truck was struck in the rear by a Ford Focus, driven by Santos Lucas. After that accident, Lucas’ three friends, Lopez, Castellano, and Juarez-Marin, arrived at the scene of the accident. Lucas moved his Ford Focus into an adjacent driveway, while Meredith, Lopez, Castellano, and Juarez-Marin, all inspected the rear of Meredith vehicle for damage. As the 4 men were standing at the rear of Meredith’s pickup, another pickup, also traveling the same direction on New LaGrange Road, crashed into the rear of Meredith’s pickup. This second pickup also struck all 4 men.
Meredith and Lopez were pronounced dead at the scene. Castellano and Juarez-Marin were taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Castellano is reported to be still at University Hospital in serious, but stable condition. Juarez-Marin was treated and released Monday afternoon.
Neither Lopez nor the driver of the second pickup truck involved in the accident suffered any injuries. At this time the police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in these car crashes. No charges are expected to be filed in either accident.
