Tyson Foods Proposes Settlement With Consumers Over Poultry

Consumers of chicken produced by Tyson Foods would collectively take in $5 million in refunds and coupons from the nation's largest poultry producer. The first substantive step in that process was taken when a federal judge signed off on the preliminary agreement between the parties.

lawsuits filed on behalf of consumers were filed in 2008 and later consolidated in Baltimore. The suite accused Tyson Foods of lying about the drugs that go into its birds, as the company had labeled some of its poultry products as “without antibiotics.” Consumers were dismayed with the good giant when it was discovered that a form of antibiotics actually had been given to the birds what were ultimately sold as being without such drugs.

Tyson Foods, based in Arkansas, denies any wrongdoing under the deal, which was outlined in a public hearing this week.
