Louisville Auto Accident Attorney: Two Killed & Two Injured On New LaGrange Road

Early last night, Sunday, January 17, 2010, a pickup truck was rear-ended by a Ford Focus while traveling in the westbound lane of New LaGrange Road, at Washburn Avenue. Subsequent to that accident, the driver of the Ford Focus, Santos Lucas, age 27, moved his car into a driveway to await police. Santos reportedly called three of his friends to the scene of that accident. While Santos moved his car into the driveway, his three friends and the driver of the pickup, which Santos had rear-ended, all were standing at the rear of the pickup examining the vehicle for damage.

At this point in time, another pickup truck, also heading westbound on New LaGrange Road, collided with the rear of the first pickup truck and the four men standing behind it. The result of this second crash was that two of the men were killed and the other two severely injured. The two men injured were taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. It is believed that of the four men standing behind the initial accident’s pickup, that of the two men killed at the scene, one was the driver of that pickup, who has yet to be identified. This second crash happened about 6:30 p.m. The driver of the second pickup truck, who has also not yet been identified, and Santos, the driver of the Ford Focus, were not injured.

The stretch of road where the accident occurred is a straight road with little to impair visibility.

In this instance, the Estate of the deceased driver of the first pickup truck will likely have a large legal claim from this accident (relating to his death & his lifetime of lost earnings), the two surviving friends of Santos will have injury claims (related to their medical bills and pain & suffering, and lost wages), and the Estate of the deceased friend of Santos will likely have a large legal claim (related to his death & his lifetime of lost earnings). The severity of the injuries and the loss of life most likely means that there will not be enough insurance funds available to cover and compensate the accident victims and the Estates of the deceased. This is a tragedy on so many levels.
