OSHA Investigating Ashland Workplace Incident
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) http://www.osha.gov/ has recently announced that it is now investigating an explosion at Special Metals Corporation in Ashland, Kentucky that injured several workers.
Seven employees working at the Special Metals Corporation plant were injured after three (3)separate explosions at the plant. OSHA has now instituted a formal investigation after the three explosions injured at least seven (7) people in late September. Early speculation is that water falling on molten metal may be responsible for the initial explosion, triggering the subsequent blasts.
OSHA's mission is to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths. The federal agency was created in 1971, under the administration of President, Richard M. NiXon. Since its inception in 1971 occupational deaths have been cut by 62% and injuries have declined by 42%.
