Kentucky Recall Attorney: Hydroxycut Recalled
The federal Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Hydroxycut after concerns of serious health problems and death due to use of the product. Hydroxycut is a popular dietary supplement that is used mainly for weight loss and appetite control. It is sold in such major chain stores as Walmart.
Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones recall attorney Larry Jones answers some important questions about the Hydroxycut recall below:
What brands and products are included in the recall?
The Hydroxycut dietary supplements are marketed by the Iovate or MuscleTech brands. The products include:
Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix), Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Liquid Shots, Hydroxycut Hardcore Ready-to-Drink, Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed, Hydroxycut 24, Hydroxycut Carb Control and Hydroxycut Natural.
Why did the FDA recall Hydroxycut?
The FDA issued a statement warning consumers of potential health hazards associated with taking Hydroxycut dietary supplements and the products have been recalled. The nature of the health injuries included liver failure, seizures, cardiac events and rhabdmyolysis (muscle tissue damage). Many of the reported problems were serious and one patient died as a result of liver failure.
What should I do if I am taking Hydroxycut at this time?
Immediately stop taking the Hydroxycut. Many of the symptoms reported were reduced immediately upon cessation of taking Hydroxycut. Even those who take small doses of Hydroxycut have been affected so you must stop taking all Hydroxycut products completely.
How do I know if I have suffered any injury?
Many patients who suffered severe injury were plagued with symptoms that prompted them to seek immediate medical attention. However the long-term effects of taking Hydroxycut have not yet been determined. Symptoms of liver damage include jaundice, dark urine, vomiting, severe fatigue and loss of appetite. If you have any of these symptoms visit your doctor or hospital.
Why didn't the FDA find the problem sooner?
Hydroxycut is a dietary supplement. Dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA in the same way that drugs are. The FDA gets involved only when problems are reported. Taking dietary supplements can be risky for this reason. Since many dietary supplements contain natural ingredients people may think that they are safe. However many natural ingredients can be unsafe depending on many factors including dosage and interaction with other substances.
What should I do if I suffered health problems due to taking Hydroxycut?
If you have had health issues that are related to taking Hydroxycut products you should talk to an attorney. Choose a law firm that specializes in cases involving recalled drug products. They will be able to assist you in the legal process of filing a lawsuit or claim for damages due to your health related injuries.
