The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of around one million Maclaren baby strollers after an investigation following 12 reports of a hinge mechanism amputating the fingertips of children.

The strollers have been sold at Target, Babies "R" Us and other stores around the country since 1999. The recall include the following nine models with single and double umbrellas: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

Maclaren USA Inc., which distributed the strollers that were manufactured in China, is offering free hinge covers as part of a repair kit. The CPSC warns that the covers should not be removed unless the stroller is being cleaned.
