Kentuckians Killed in Indiana Car Wreck --Not Wearing Seatbelts?

Indiana officials say that four Kentucky citizens killed in an Indiana car wreck this week were not wearing seatbelts when their car crashed into a sport-utility vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Department Richard Rardin of Clay City, Ky., tried to pass in a no-passing zone Tuesday on Indiana 5 near the community of Larwill when the crash happened.

Mr. Rardin died of head and internal injuries. Also killed were 29-year-old Amanda Hollon of Winchester, Ky., and 34-year-old Shara Means and 21-year-old Shannel Gabbard of Stanton, Ky.

Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones wrongful death attorney Larry Jones says, "I've been handling car wreck cases for long enough to know that the investigating officers get this wrong quite a bit. Whenever someone is accused of not wearing their seatbelt, and a death or serious injury is involved, it is very important to recover the 'black box' from the vehicle in which they were driving. The black box can be used by an experienced accident reconstruction expert to tell whether or not the seatbelts were actually in use at the time of the crash."
