There was another Ford Explorer rollover crash that resulted in the death of an occupant here in Kentucky, this one in Louisville. We have been posting commentary here on Kentucky Injury Lawyer Blog about how Ford Explorers are more likely than other vehicles to rollover and more likely to eject and kill occupants when they do.

According to Louisville Metro Police, this latest accident happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday on I-265 South (known as the Gene Snyder Expressway). Reportedly, witnesses told police that a Ford Explorer was trying to change lanes when the driver over-corrected and the vehicle flipped several times. Speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Three people were in the Explorer when it crashed. Two were taken to University Hospital for treatment. According to reports, the injuries to one of the hospitalized passengers are considered life-threatening. The third passenger, a 24-year-old Louisville resident, was ejected from the Explorer and died at the scene. As is often the case when a person has been ejected in a rollover crash, authorities concluded he was not wearing a seatbelt. However, with Ford Explorers, the integrity of the seatbelt can be compromised during a rollover, allowing an occupant to be ejected even if belted.

"This is why it's so important for a forensic investigation to be conducted by experienced professionals when a person is severely injured or killed in a Ford Explorer rollover crash," said Shawn Cantley, a lawyer in Louisville, Kentucky who represents people injured by vehicle defects (or, in the case of a death, the family of the deceased).
