City of Louisville Sued For Workplace Retaliation Stemming From Sexual Harassment
Just two days after Louisville Metro Animal Services Director Gilles Meloche announced his resignation, a lawsuit has been filed claiming that he sexually harassed a woman subordinate and then retaliated against her after she complained about it.
Under Kentucky law, KRS 344.280, it is illegal to discriminate or retaliate against anyone for complaining about sexual harassment or discrimination in the workplace OR supporting and/or providing information about a complaint involving such.
Louisville personal injury attorney and civil rights attorney Brent T. Ackerson stated: “Discrimination and sexual harassment happen in the workplace. Employees who are wronged have legal rights. Employees who think discrimination or sexual harassment has occurred should be encouraged to report it and have it investigated. Equally true is that those employees who report such should be free from being retaliated for coming forward and reporting such.”
