Birth Control Pills Cause Injury: Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella Cases to Be Consolidated in MDL

Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are causing a significant litigation stir these days. However, I've received calls regarding these cases for over the last year. The three birth control pills contain drospirenone. Yaz and Yasmin are taken orally and combine estrogen and progestin hormones.

Medical literature indicates that Yaz and Yasmine’s drospirenone increases potassium levels. As a result, these birth control pills can

disrupt heart rhythms
slow down blood flow
cause blood clots
strokes
heart attacks
pulmonary emboli

The federal Food and Drug Administration has received numerous reports of Yaz/Yasmin related deaths since 2004.

You may have noticed that Bayer has been running advertisements in 2009 warning consumers about the dangerous effects of its drugs. However, this does nothing to warn the numerous consumers who have been injured by Yaz, Yasmine or the generic Ocella.

Numerous lawsuits have been filed and the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation is now considering consolidation motions. The MDL panel heard arguments in late December and should issue a ruling anytime.

Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones dangerous drug attorney Larry Jones, who currently is involved in several MDL proceedings and serves on the Total Body Formula MDL steering committee, says, "It is time for Bayer to pull this dangerous combination of drugs off the markey and compensate the countless number of people that have been injured by its products."
