Seatbelts Save Lives in Louisville, Jefferson County and Kentucky
The Kentucky State Police released data indicating that out of 828 people who lost their lives on Kentucky roadways in 2008, 64% were not wearing a seatbelt. Survey results indicate that 73% of people in Kentucky routinely buckle up, which is the fourth lowest rate of usage in all 50 states. Lap/shoulder belt usage reduces the risk of death to front seat occupants by 45%.
Unfortunately, seatbelt use does not prevent injuries, including those which can and do occur when someone else breaks the rules of the road and causes a wreck.
