Medi-Spa Malpractice Lawsuits Rise With Growth Of The Industry
Patients are filing an increasing number of medical malpractice lawsuits involving so-called medical spas over beauty treatments gone wrong.
Attorneys familiar with such cases say claims related to laser hair removal are particularly common and that more regulation is needed over this rapidly growing industry. A trade group that represents the medi-spa industry estimates that the number of medical spas has quadrupled in the past five years.
Shawn Cantley, a Kentucky attorney who handles select medical malpractice claims says, "medical malpractices cases are nearly impossible to win in the current political climate, despite what people see in the media. Unfortunately, this can lead to even more shoddy medical care. Cosmetic procedures done carelessly and below accepted medical standards can be as devastating as other forms of medical negligence."
