Kentucky Drug Injury Lawyer Update: In Paxil Birth Defect Case, GSK Ordered To Turn Over Emails

A federal judge has ordered GlaxoSmithKline to turn over e-mails between the company and researchers investigating a possible link between the antidepressant Paxil and birth defects, Bloomberg reports. GSK had attempted to avoid turning over the emails for months.

In the ruling, District Judge Nancy Gertner held that the family of a child born with heart defects whose mother took the antidepressant during pregnancy is entitled to review the e-mails. The 1-year-old died in 2004 after three surgeries to address heart defects.

The plaintiffs contend officials at London-based GSK, which funded the birth-defect research, sought to influence the study’s results to help protect the company from lawsuits.

The attorneys of Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones PLC represent Kentucky and Indiana citizens who have been injured by defective drugs or products.
