Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a woman incarcerated at the Rowan County (Kentucky) Detention Center over the weekend.
KSP stated in a news release that 27-year-old Tina Watkins, of Salt Lick, Kentucky, was found dead in her cell around 5 a.m.
Police said she was in jail on a charge of driving under the influence, but no arrest date was given.
An autopsy was performed state medical examiner’s office. Officials are saying they do not suspect foul play, according to reports.
Shawn Cantley, a Kentucky attorney who handles wrongful death cases against corporate and government run jails and other detention facilities when the death is caused negligence of the jailer or detention corporation said, "We don't know any of the facts at this point, but 27 year olds don't usually just die of natural causes over night. If this young lady's death was caused by the failure to follow protocols at the jail, her family has a right to know this. Unfortunately, internal investigations are not always the most probing when it comes to determining whether proper protocols were followed."
