Vine Grove, Kentucky: Arrest Made in Fatal ATV Accident

There was a fatal hit-and-run collision with an ATV Monday evening in Vine Grove, Kentucky (Hardin County), near Elizabethtown, Kentucky. According to multiple reports, an arrest has been made of a suspect in connection with the death of the ATV driver, Stanley Hensley.

The suspect, Michael R. Pierce, 42, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or serious injury. Reportedly, the property at the Vine Grove address listed for Pierce is vacant.

The wreck claimed the life of 57-year-old Stan Hensley, who was a retired Fort Knox water treatment plant worker, gardener and outdoorsman, according to his obituary.

According to Kentucky State Police, Mr. Hensley was lawfully using the ATV to tow a farm implement from one property to another when his vehicle was struck from behind. He was transported to University Hospital in Louisville where he was pronounced dead.

KSP reported that Pierce was on his way to Afghanistan, where he works as a military contracter. He took a Wednesday flight from Louisville to Dallas and was scheduled to fly from Dallas to London, England. He was detained in Dallas on his layover.

A 2009 Pontiac rented at Louisville International Airport was involved in the wreck, according to KSP, and later was found abandoned on Logsdon Parkway in Radcliff, KY, disabled by front-end damage caused during the collision.

Pierce now is in custody in Dallas on a $150,000 bond.

Mr. Hensley’s funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Valley View Baptist Church with burial to follow at North Hardin Memorial Gardens. Visitation is at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove today from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Friday.
