Chinese Drywall in Kentucky?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that Chinese drywall complaints have surfaced in Kentucky. Common features of complaints include a rotten egg/sulfer smell in homes; health problems such as irritated and itchy eyes and skin, breathing problems, persistent cough, nosebleeds, runny nose, recurrent headaches, sinus infection and asthma attacks; and blackened and corroded metal components, including air conditioning coils.
The Chinese-made drywall became prominent in homes when a housing boom triggered by the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons caused a demand for drywall that domestic manufacturers couldn't meet. Importation of the faulty drywall manufactured in China became the solution and now appears to be just as devatstating to families who suffered losses due to the hurricanes.
