Two Seperate Coal Mine Accidents Injure 10 Workers
Kentucky mining officials are investigating workplace injury accidents at two coal mines today that injured a total of 10 workers.
"Mining is one of the most dangerous and deadly jobs in the United States," said Shawn Cantley, who is the son of a former-miner and a Kentucky injury lawyer. "Mine operators and equipment manufacturers must do everything in their power to protect miners from workplace injury."
The Courier-Journal (Louisville, Kentucky) is reporting that a spokesperson for the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing said Friday that investigators from OMSL are at both accident scenes.
Eight miners employed by KenAmerican Resources Inc. in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky were injured Thursday when a machine that carries miners in and out of mines appears to have malfunctioned. None of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening.
Two other miners were hurt Thursday when an unoccupied pickup truck apparently rolled down a road and hit two workers at a mine site in Floyd County. Both were airlifted to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
