Teacher Had Prior History of Alleged Sexual Abuse

A Paris High School teacher facing child-pornography charges has been previously accused of sexual abuse while he was a teacher in Pulaski County. Kenneth R. Shadoan, 30, a math teacher at Paris High School was accused of sexual abuse in 2005 --shortly before he was hired at Paris High School. According to the Lexington Herald, in August 2005, the teacher was charged and later acquitted of first-degree sodomy in Whitley County; he had been accused of having deviant sexual intercourse with an 18-year-old man by forcible compulsion. This occurred on an Upward Bound camping trip.

Shadoan was a teacher with the Pulaski County schools from 2002 to 2005, but he was fired after Kentucky State Police notified school officials about the charge against him, assistant school superintendent Steve Butcher said.

News reports also reveal that the teacher sought to induce a student into having sex with him with promises of good grades.

The teacher was arrested right before he was set to travel to New York to supervise young boys on a camping trip after investigators confiscated some of his personal belongings.

Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones personal injury and sexual abuse attorney, who is a member of the National Crime Victims Bar Association, Larry Jones says, "The Paris County Board of Education missed the mark with this hire. Clearly, the Pulaski County School System found sufficient cause to get rid of this alleged sexual predator and the Paris County School system should have never put this alleged sexual predator in the classroom and around children. The alleged conduct in this case is despicable. In my opinion, the School Board should be held accountable for placing children in such a dangerous situation."
