Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones personal injury lawyer, Larry Jones, who is a member of the National Crime Victims Bar Association, said "it is unfortunate that these individuals had their trust violated and their personal information exploited." Larry says that sometimes victims of identity theft may have recourse against the entity for whom the offender worked depending on how the company handled the information. In fact, in recent years, there have been a number of class action lawsuits filed against major corporations in data breach cases.
While the personal injury lawyers of Bahe Cook Cantley & Jones normally help individuals injured by the "negligence" of someone else, they are also experienced with helping victims of "intentional" conduct, including identify theft.
Larry also explains that the Louisville Police Department has its own division devoted to victims of identity theft. To report an identity theft crime call the Economic Crimes Squad at 574-7045 or 574-7573.
