Four Kentucky Motorcycle Accident Deaths Last Week

It was a deadly week for Kentucky motorcyclists last week (June 8 - 14, 2009). According to the Kentucky State Police, there were eleven fatalities in eleven separate auto accidents in Kentucky last week alone.

Of the eleven victims, four were riding motorcycles. Reportedly, each of the fatalities involved cyclists who were riding without a helmet. These motorcycle accidents happened in Daviess, Lawrence, Montgomery and Wolfe Counties.

Additionally, there was a single bicycle accident fatality in Trigg County. Reportedly, the victim in the bicycle accident also was not wearing a helmet.

"The statistics don't lie--if you're wearing a helmet while riding and involved in an accident, you're chances of surviving the wreck are better," said Shawn Cantley, an experienced Louisville, Kentucky motorcycle accident lawyer. "A cyclist is extremely vulnerable when involved in an accident with a car or truck, and sometimes it's not going to make a difference, but many times the helmet will be responsible for saving your life, period."
